Call for submissions: Sense of Place, Culture Days 2019 Collaborative Book Project

Exhibition Dates: September 25 to October 12, 2019

Art Gallery of St. Albert wants to know how you define your sense of place. What makes a place meaningful? Where do you feel that you belong? How do we relate to physical space? For many people, their sense of place is tied to a physical location; their home, their city, the land, their country or somewhere further afield. Place can also exist abstractly and on different scales (eg. your place in a book, in life, the universe, and imaginary places).

In considering your sense of place, the Gallery is asking participants to send us small drawings, prints, poems, paintings, photos, or collages. We will be taking all of the works that are sent for this project, and binding them into a series of small hand-made art books, which will be exhibited in the Gallery throughout Alberta Culture Days 2019. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will be able to look through the books, taking in the wide range of places that hold meaning and significance for all participants.

Artists of all ages and experience levels are welcome to take part, using any two-dimensional media. However, all of the pieces must be no more than 5 x 7”.

Participants are welcome to drop off their submissions in person, or mail them to the Art Gallery of St. Albert, 19 Perron Street, St. Albert, AB, T8N 1E5.

The gallery will be accepting submissions for this project until September 19, 2019 at 5 PM. Due to the nature of the project, none of the individual pieces will be returned after the exhibit.
