9:00 AM – 5:00 PM   Music Lessons and Recording Sessions    Dominelli Music, 55 Chevigny Street

Dominelli Music is offering free, 30 minute, private music lessons (guitar, drums, singing, piano, bass) as well as free 30 minute recording studio spots on September 28, 29 and 30. These opportunities are for individuals of all ages and abilities. Each individual/band can book a maximum of 1 spot over the 3 days. Visit dominellimusic.com to book online. 

10:00 AM – 5:00 PM   In Their Footsteps      Musée Héritage Museum, St. Albert Place

The Musée Heritage Museum’s exhibit, In Their Footsteps, emphasizes the diversity, innovation and creativity of artistic expression found in the strong traditions of the Dené, Cree and Métis people of Western Canada. A colourful and inspiring exhibition featuring several generations of known makers and their stories. This exhibit will be accompanied by an interactive beading craft for all ages.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2018

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM       It Starts with Me Pop -Up Exhibit    St. Albert Public Library

An interactive exhibit. Prior to Culture Days St. Albert Community & Social Development (CSD) engaged with residents to listen to their stories. From this engagement an interactive display was created with photos, stories and audio recordings of community members (including those who face barriers to inclusion.) The focus question: “what is one thing that makes you unique or that you are proud of.” This engagement becomes an interactive exhibit over Culture Days weekend.

11:00 AM – 4:00 PM     Watch & Create with SAPVAC   St. Albert Place, St. Albert Place  
The St. Albert Place Visual Arts Council will be set up in the studios and halls of St. Albert Place for the following exhibits and interactive demonstrations:

  • Painters Guild – hands on activity – TBA
  • Paper Arts Guild – member demonstrations
  • Floral Arts Society – boutonniere / corsage making activity
  • Quilters Guild – member demonstrations
  • Potters Guild – member demonstrations

1:00  PM – 4:00 PM  Authentic Art  Visual Arts Studio Association  (VASA),  25 Sir Winston Churchill Avenue

VASA will have on display the work of their Authentic Art classes. Authentic Art is a program developed by VASA for individuals with developmental disabilities. During the classes students are introduced to several subjects that are relevant to their experiences. They are given drawing exercises to develop fine motor skills and introduced to a variety of techniques in water-based media. There is an exhibition of their work during Culture Days weekend with a celebratory reception with the students on September 29 at 2:30 pm.

Our culture is creative! Join us and get creative with crafts before you go to the Fred Penner show at the Arden Theatre. Or choose to cozy up with the family and enjoy the creativity of the National Film Board on our big screen with some popcorn in the Library. No tickets required.

MEASURING ST. ALBERT     Various locations

In partnership with Pygmalion School of Fine Art. This project combines a physical height measurement of St. Albertans evolving into an installation piece. Individuals will have their height marked on blank white boards with a line measurement, name and date using a black sharpie. This project will circulate prior to Culture Days weekend (Canada Day celebrations, St. Albert Farmer’s Market, etc.)  and will also travel through the various events and activities happening over Culture Days.  The installation will then be mounted for display and viewing on the Sunday, September 30 at St. Albert Place.
